Over three years ago, Kentucky hurdler Masai Russell said she’d be an NCAA Track and Field national champion. While Russell never got to see out that dream, she now has a new one on the horizon. Becoming a world champion and gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The Kentucky alum competed in the United States Olympic Trials almost two weeks ago, securing her spot in Paris along the way. There, Russell set a world-leading time in the 100m hurdles: 12.25 seconds. She broke a 24-year-long Olympic Trials record, previously held by Gail Devers. Her pace is the fourth fastest time ever recorded ...

But it was comments made by Kendricks on Friday after the qualifying round in Eugene, Oregon that created the drama after the men’s pole vault final was concluded. Not out on the field of Howard Stadium but inside at the media gaggle was where the bigger drama was looming after Kendricks said on Friday he may “not even go” if he qualifies for his third Olympics after the events that transpired three years ...

He was removed from the competition and put in quarantine with his dreams of a second Olympics medal dashed before he could even start. A common refrain among Iowa wrestlers is that ‘the biggest match in the world is simply the next match on the schedule.’ Now, whether outsiders believe that sentiment to more or less be coach-speak nonsense is up to them. But for Spencer Lee – one (former) Hawkeye who has repeatedly cited that mantra ever since arriving in Iowa City back in 2017 – it has perhaps never been truer than it is right now. This Saturday in Istanbul, Turkey, Lee will take the mat just four wins away from realizing a lifelong wrestling dream – punching his ticket to the Olympic Games. Standing in his way is a deep, ta...
