The Dagestani regional governor visited the site of a weekend attack by Islamist militants, which killed 20 and injured another 26. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is currently in hospital following a shooting that occurred following his cabinet's away-from-home session in the town of Handlova. Slovakian media has named the shooter as Juraj Cintula from the small western town of Levice. According to Slovak daily newspaper Dennik N, the suspected perpetrator is 71 years old, a writer and a founding member of the DÚHA Literary Club. An attack on a Russian police checkpoint has left seven dead. A group of militants attacked a police checkpoint in Russia’s North Caucus region, Russian officials said on Monday. Two police officers and five gunmen were killed. Four other officers were wounded. The same gunmen killed in the attack had raided another police checkpoint a week before, according to Russia’s top state criminal investigation agency.
