Seattle (AFP) - Thousands of Boeing hourly workers voted in Seattle to authorize a potential labor strike if ongoing contract negotiations stumble, a union statement said Wednesday. The result was generally expected but came on top of renewed scrutiny Boeing is facing after a series of troubles including a January incident in which a fuselage door plug blew out during a flight. "We want the company to take our proposals seriously and bargain earnestly," said Jon Holden, President of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) District 751. The initial vote -- which pass...

Airbus has recently announced that it would be halting hiring cycles, as well as slashing costs, in order to battle a stream of cheaper aircraft from China. The Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (Comac) has been emerging as a potential rival to Airbus, and is currently preparing itself to significantly ramp up its aircraft exports and cement itself as a major player in the international airline market. This in turn, has left Airbus making big moves to decrease costs per aircraft and well as increase productivity in other ways. In an effort to do so, the company has already communicated ...

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said on Monday it is having oxygen masks in around 2,600 Boeing aircraft inspected due to issues with adhesive materials that could cause them to shift out of position. The FAA said that the fault "could result in an inability to provide supplemental oxygen to passengers during a depressurization event." The inspection order comes after multiple reports from passengers that the oxygen mask units had shifted out of position because of a "retention failure," according to the FAA. The issue affects both older and newer versions of the Boeing 737 aircra...

New York (AFP) - Boeing confirmed on Monday that it had reached a deal with the US Department of Justice over two fatal 737 MAX crashes, with court documents showing the planemaker set to plead guilty to fraud. The agreement comes after prosecutors concluded Boeing flouted an earlier settlement addressing the disasters, in which 346 people were killed in Ethiopia and Indonesia more than five years ago. "We have reached an agreement in principle on terms of a resolution with the Justice Department," Boeing said in a statement. Families of crash victims immediately filed an objection to the deal...

Washington (AFP) - US aviation regulators said Monday that thousands of Boeing 737 airplanes would need to be inspected, amid concerns that passenger oxygen masks could fail in emergencies. The airworthiness directive by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) comes into effect immediately and affects more than 2,600 US-registered airplanes. The aim is to ensure that passenger service unit oxygen generators are in the right position on certain Boeing airplanes. Operators are to check the oxygen generators and "perform corrective actions, if necessary, within 120 to 150 days," the FAA said in...
