Germany is once again sending a warship to the Red Sea as part of an EU military mission to protect merchant shipping from attacks by Houthi militants. The frigate named Hamburg left the German Navy's largest base in Wilhelmshaven on Monday with around 240 men and women on board, according to the Navy. Broadcaster NDR reported, however, the ship lacks specialized radar equipment that can be used to locate ballistic anti-ship missiles. Nevertheless, the ship is capable of defending against such missiles, emphasized Marco Thiele, Chairman of the Navy at the German Armed Forces Association. Accor...

Washington (AFP) - Shady websites calling for a boycott of Qatar, a New York billboard targeting the Gulf state's rulers, and a Vietnamese outfit floating hundreds of slander-ridden Facebook ads -- all elements of a sprawling influence operation vilifying the country as it mediates between Israel and Hamas. The murky operation, which began late last year and spans multiple countries, is the largest ever to target the wealthy emirate, disinformation researchers say, as the nine-month war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group rages on. The campaigns, many using Islamophobic and anti-...

The Dutch Party for Freedom (PVV), Belgium's Vlaams Belang and the Danish People's Party announced their intention to join the alliance over the weekend. Their declaration means seven countries are now represented in the alliance called Patriots for Europe, an important condition to form a parliamentary group in the EU legislature. The Party for Freedom (PVV), a Dutch far-right nationalist party, will join a new alliance of similarly like-minded parties in the European Parliament, its leader said. Dubbed the Patriots for Europe, the alliance was recently formed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. "We are PVV patriots, we love our nation. Strong and sovereign. Resisting illegal immigration. We defend peace and freedom. And support Ukraine. We protect our Judeo-Christian heritage. And our families," wrote PVV leader Geert Wilders on X on Friday evening.
