The revered Record Plant studio in Los Angeles is set to close after 55 years, reports stated. The groundbreaking facility – one of the first to feature a “living room” environment for artists instead of lab-like conditions – has been a key part of rock history since in opened in 1969. But commentators suggested it had become a victim of technological changes in the music industry. Fleetwood Mac notably recorded Rumours at the Record Plant, after the Eagles had tracked Hotel California in the same place. Guns N’ Roses later worked on Appetite for Destruction there, too. Duff McKagan continues to insist that he inspired The Simpsons’ Duff Beer. “So I was Duff, the King of Beers,” the Guns N’ Roses bassist explained to Stereogum. “But this is 1988, 1989 and our management, I remember they called me and said some arthouse-like cartoon wants to use your name as the beer, like a college arthouse cartoon. There weren’t any adult cartoons at this point.” McKagan agreed and initially didn’t think much of it. “I didn’t know about branding or anything like that, but that show took off,” he explained. “And then they started selling merch and stuff. According to Slash, Guns N’ Roses are at work on a new album and he’s involved in the process. “Guns N’ Roses are trying to make their own record,” the guitarist recently explained to the Daily Star (via NME) when asked about why people like Axl Rose or his Conspirators collaborator Myles Kennedy did not appear on his new solo album, Orgy of the Damned, released on May 17. “And I’m working with them in that capacity, but this [solo album] didn’t involve anyone else. It was my own side thing, so I wasn’t dragging my own guys in.” Orgy of the Damned did, however, feature a number of other guests...

Slash gave fans at Budapest’s MVM Dome a special treat on Friday, dusting off the Guns N’ Roses deep cut “Perfect Crime” for the first time with his solo band. You can watch the performance below. Bassist Todd Kerns handled lead vocals on the high-speed Use Your Illusion I rocker, approximating Axl Rose‘s alley-cat howl with ease. It’s one of several GN’R deep cuts that Slash has revived on his current tour with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, along with the Illusion tracks “Don’t Damn Me” and “Bad Apples,” both of which Kerns also sings.
