San Francisco (AFP) - Elon Musk on Wednesday said his Neuralink startup is "moving on" to a second test patient as its tech for linking brains and computers improves. Musk and members of the Neuralink team fielded questions during an update streamed on X, formerly Twitter, discussing where it is on the path to making its brain implants commonplace. "We're only just moving now to our second Neuralink patient," Musk said. "But we hope to have, if things go well, high single digits this year." The EU executive should table less green legislation in the coming political cycle or risk overwhelming MEPs and their staff, the European People’s Party environmental and health policy coordinator has said. Peter Liese issued his warning the morning after MEPs agreed not to split the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) into two separate committees. “At least 25% of all co-decision files landed in ENVI,” Liese said, referring to standard legislative process, where proposals from the European Commission are amended separately then together by...

“There is reason for increased awareness but not for increased concern,” said Pamela Rendi-Wagner, director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in a statement, adding that it was important to stay alert and proactive as “this threat to human health should not be underestimated”. While several outbreaks of avian influenza have been detected on farms around the world - with recent reports coming from farms in the United States - transmission to humans is still rare and limited to those in close contact with infected animals and contaminated spaces. Tampons contain concentrations of several metals, including lead, arsenic, and zinc, according to a new study, but more research is needed to determine if it could affect people’s health. Researchers evaluated 16 metals across 14 different tampon brands and found “measurable concentrations” of all the metals evaluated. This included toxic metals such as lead, cadmium and arsenic, and high levels of calcium and zinc compared to the other metals. Tampons are typically made of cotton or rayon and are used to absorb menstrual flow inside the body. Researchers say the product is of particular conce...

South Korea's government said it will withdraw an earlier plan to suspend striking doctors' licenses. Thousands of junior doctors went on strike in February to protest the government's plan to increase school admissions. It wasn't immediately known how many would return to work after the latest announcement. Health Minister Cho Kyoo-Hong said the government has decided not to suspend the licenses of the strikers, regardless of whether they return to their hospitals. He said the decision is meant to address a shortage of doctors treating emergency patients. The government had withdrawn its plan...
