We’ve got practice highlights!! Ahead of Friday night’s The Basketball Tournament opener for La Familia (Kentucky’s alumni team), the current edition of the Wildcats took their shot at the older Wildcats in a 5-on-5 practice setting inside Rupp Arena. UK Sports Video dropped a two-minute video of highlights from the practice, with Mark Pope‘s squad wearing white and Tyler Ulis‘ squad sporting blue. Among the highlights? A couple of deep Kerr Kriisa three-pointers, Amari Williams cutting for a dunk, an Otega Oweh shot from deep, a couple of tough Collin Chandler layups at the rim, and much more...

Daniel Orton’s time at Kentucky may not have ended on a good note, but the former Wildcat wouldn’t trade his year in Lexington for the world. Ahead of his run with La Familia in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), Orton reminisced on what it was like to be on John Calipari’s first Kentucky team, which also included John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, and Orton’s La Familia teammate Eric Bledsoe. Despite losing in the Elite Eight, the 2009-10 team brought the program and fanbase back to life, an experience for which Orton will be forever grateful. “One of the best times of my life, to ...

Want to know how things are going behind the scenes for the Kentucky Wildcats under Mark Pope? Why don’t you ask his right-hand man, assistant coach Cody Fueger? Following Pope from Utah Valley to BYU, then again to Lexington this offseason, Fueger has been by the head coach’s side since 2013 — 2015 as a full-time assistant. They’re like peanut butter and jelly or peas and carrots, going into their 12th season of college basketball together now at Kentucky. Fueger joined the Sources Say Podcast to talk about his move to Lexington with Pope, the offensive brilliance they found together in Provo...

Last year at SEC Media Days we hooked a big fish with a one-on-one interview with Mark Stoops. This year I spoke with Mark Pope. Weird, right? The Kentucky basketball coach was kind enough to spend some time talking ball on Kentucky Roll Call, my radio show with TJ Walker. Naturally, I can’t resist the urge to ask a somewhat off-the-wall question, but there’s one serious matter Big Blue Nation must prepare for next season. Under the old regime, Kentucky fans had to be patient in the months of November and December. It took time for John Calipari’s young teams to adjust to the level of play and...

Three exhibitions down, three wins on the books for Team USA in the lead-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics. This time around, a pair of former Wildcats made headlines. On Wednesday in Abu Dhabi during a 105-79 win for the United States over Serbia — which features the NBA’s reigning MVP, Nikola Jokic — Bam Adebayo and Anthony Davis put together impressive performances. For Adebayo, the Miami Heat big man recorded 17 points (6-9 FG), eight rebounds, and three assists in 18 minutes. Notably, he shot 3-5 from long range, taking advantage of the shorter three-point line used under FIBA rules. For refe...

Kentucky Sports Radio hopped into a time machine on Wednesday’s show for one of the best KSR episodes of the summer and one of my favorites of all time. Ryan Lemond and I were thrilled to be joined by La Familia, the team of Kentucky alums in The Basketball Tournament, and several basketball fans eager to meet the former Wildcats in Lexington. La Familia will debut in the TBT with an 8 p.m. game in Rupp Arena on Friday. Get your tickets here. To preview the tournament, every member of the team guest starred on Wednesday’s KSR show, beginning with head coach Tyler Ulis in the lead-off spot. We’...

It’s weird to call Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham former Kentucky Wildcats, but that’s where we are. It feels like they just got to Lexington to open their careers, and now, they’re out in Las Vegas taking the NBA Summer League by storm — especially the Houston Rockets rookie. Tyler Ulis was out in Sin City this weekend watching it all unfold, a full-circle moment for someone who was once in their shoes getting his start in the league. He was a college basketball star who thrived as a pro before injuries and a life-threatening car accident derailed his career, bringing him back to Kentucky t...

During James Young‘s lone season at Kentucky in 2013-14, he became close friends with Willie Cauley-Stein, who was a sophomore at the time for the Wildcats. The two were key pieces in Kentucky’s run to the 2014 national championship game, which (as we know) unfortunately ended with a loss to UConn. Over a decade later, the two will reunite as teammates in Lexington once again when they suit up for La Familia in this week’s The Basketball Tournament at Rupp Arena. But this isn’t the first time since college that the former Wildcats will take the court together wearing the same jersey. In fact, ...

Oh, to be a fly on the wall of the Joe Craft Center on Tuesday. La Familia, Kentucky’s alumni team in The Basketball Tournament (TBT), met and practiced against the current Kentucky squad last night, creating a bridge between the John Calipari and Mark Pope eras. Not many people have seen Mark Pope’s first Kentucky team in action, so when La Familia came on KSR this morning, we had to ask each player for their impressions of the new guys. The verdict: it’s early, but the former Cats are impressed by the energy and experience of Pope’s group. While no one divulged which squad had the upper hand...

The moment you’ve all been waiting for is here, folks. Your past favorites are practicing against your current and future favorites at the Joe Craft Center, and we now have the highlights to show for it. La Familia is in town for The Basketball Tournament, the likes of Aaron and Andrew Harrison, Eric Bledsoe, Willie Cauley-Stein, James Young, Kellan Grady and Nate Sestina returning to Lexington to begin their push for the $1 million prize. Before suiting up in the TBT, they’re suiting up against the current Wildcats in their old practice gym — allowed by the NCAA as part of the school’s normal...
