There were several factors that led to the Oklahoma Sooners moving to the SEC. One of the key ones for athletic director Joe Castiglione was looking forward to the financial future of sports. At Oklahoma’s Welcome to the SEC press conference, Castiglione addressed the finances and opened up about how they’re going to impact athletics moving forward, particularly amid the changing landscape of college athletics. “If anybody’s been paying attention, you know that the expenses in college athletics or around college athletics are going up much faster than the rate of new revenue,” Joe Castiglione ...

It was a disappointing end to the season for Porter Moser and Oklahoma basketball this past March. The Sooners narrowly missed out on a chance to compete in the NCAA Tournament, coming in as the first team out on Selection Sunday. This came on the heels of Oklahoma losing six of its final eight games of the season. The Sooners had at one point been ranked as high as No. 7 in the AP poll and finished the year with a 20-12 record. Still, it was their late collapse that ultimately kept them from competing in March Madness. That being the case, Moser believes the progress was encouraging coming of...

Oklahoma women’s basketball coach Jennie Baranczyk summed up the Sooners’ move to the SEC pretty simply: a dogfight. She’s no stranger to the quality of basketball in the conference as Oklahoma begins a new era of the program’s history. So will Oklahoma compete right away with the big dogs? That’s the goal for Baranczyk and company. “We’re heading into a pretty high-expectation league,” Baranczyk said on the SEC Network. “And so, you know, I do think that we’ve had a great three years and you know, it was really fun to be part of the Big 12. We’re really excited to be able to compete against t...

Oklahoma is officially in the SEC — which means the entire campus is getting a bit of a makeover. That includes the locker rooms. On July 1, the Sooners Men’s Basketball team unveiled a first look at their locker room donning their new conference logo colored in Oklahoma crimson and cream alongside the classic OU and Jordan brand logos. As the SEC’s slogan says, it just means more. Oklahoma says they’re built for more. The Sooners join the SEC alongside archival Texas, meaning the hardwood version of the Red River Shootout will continue. Oklahoma’s first SEC opponents have already been announc...

Occasionally, even the most bitter rivals have to put their biases aside to work together toward a common cause. In Texas and Oklahoma‘s case, the common cause was joining the SEC. In a conversation with On3’s Andy Staples, Inside Texas’ Joe Cook revealed how the two competing programs worked together to make the move to the SEC. “These teams have been together since ’96 in the same league,” Cook said. “They’ve competed for Big 12 South championships. They competed against each other in a Big 12 Championship in 2018. And they always compete with each other during the second Saturday in October...

The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners are officially on the move to the SEC from the Big 12. So, naturally, the TCU Horned Frogs couldn’t miss the chance to put out a farewell video on social media on behalf of the Big 12 to say goodbye to them. The video uses the final scene from Toy Story 3 to create a sentimental feeling of saying goodbye to an old friend. In it, Andy is labeled as Texas and Oklahoma while the remaining Big 12 schools are the toys, with TCU playing the role of Woody. Of course, TCU wasn’t making an entirely serious video and it ends up trolling the two schools as Woody t...

Oklahoma is now an official member of the SEC as July 1 marked the momentous completion of a multi-year process to move the Sooners east. This was the end of a pretty massive project for Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione. So, now that he’s completed his grand move, is there an expectation the 66-year-old AD could start considering a smooth transition into retirement? On Monday morning’s On3 YouTube live-stream with Andy Staples, he brought on George Stoia and Eddie Radosevich of Sooner Scoop to talk all things OU post-transition. But one interesting topic brought up by Stoia is his ex...

Joe Castiglione is closing in on completing his third decade at the helm of the Oklahoma athletic department, having served as the athletic director in Norman since July 1998. And though the man in charge has plenty left in the tank, he is considerate of what he’d like things to look like when he does hang it up. And for Castiglione, the hope is that all things Sooners can not only maintain success, but continue achieving at higher and higher levels. “But I hope when the time comes that I leave Oklahoma in the best position possible,” Castiglione said. “That’s my dream, to leave Oklahoma with ...

More than one coach at Oklahoma recently got a raise with Porter Moser getting a bump on his contract too. That, according to AD Joe Castiglione, was nothing more than a show of good faith from them to the head men’s basketball coach of the Sooners. Castiglione discussed the additional pay while speaking with the media last week. In his explanation, he said an increase in Moser’s deal wasn’t on the schedule like in other years. However, with what they did this season at OU, their leadership felt as though that he had earned it. “Yeah, there was a part of the contract that is in place? Just the...
