With the changing of the guard with the Alabama football team, many college football fans are curious what the Crimson Tide’s offensive attack will look like under their new head coach, Kalen DeBoer. On Wednesday evening on The Paul Finebaum Show during the 2024 SEC KICKOFF, On3’s J.D. PicKell offered up his analogy on what he thinks the Tide’s new offense will feel like for Bama fans. “I think the offense is going to be phenomenal. My first thought when he [Kalen DeBoer] got hired at Alabama was okay, well Jalen Milroe, different skill set than a Michael Penix, Jr. than he had at Washington. ...

As Alabama took over the Omni Dallas Hotel for SEC Media Days on Wednesday, the GOAT watched closely. Nick Saban – in Day 3 of SEC Network coverage – was in the building as Kalen DeBoer took the podium. Throughout the day, the Crimson Tide’s player representatives discussed what it’s like seeing Saban on TV instead of in the building. One of the more memorable quotes came from Tyler Booker, who called Saban out for “playing golf all day” and making predictions. Malachi Moore also joked about how much the legendary coach is smiling now that he’s on TV. After the dust settled on Wednesday’s pres...

In November 2021, Quinn Ewers looked on as Ohio State made it to Ann Arbor for “The Game” against Michigan. He didn’t play that day, but he saw the passion of the two fan bases in one of college football’s top rivalries. After that season, Ewers entered the transfer portal and returned to his home state when he committed to Steve Sarkisian at Texas. But he’ll head back to The Big House one more time this year when the Longhorns and Wolverines square off in a Week 2 showdown. That experience as a true freshman will likely help Ewers when he returns to Ann Arbor. After all, he didn’t say “Michig...

Paul Finebaum’s recent criticism of USC head coach Lincoln Riley has been well documented over the past couple of weeks. The SEC analyst went on record as saying that Riley would be out of a job at the end of the 2024 college football season, and that his only way back to becoming a high-profile head coach again would be to return to his roots as an offensive coordinator. During an appearance on First Take on Wednesday morning, Finebaum doubled down on his previous critiques of the Trojans headman. His evaluation of the head coach came after Riley left Oklahoma around the same time the Sooners...

After Alabama’s Week 2 loss to Texas last year, the Crimson Tide were suddenly in the middle of a quarterback controversy. Nick Saban benched Jalen Milroe for the following matchup against USF, meaning Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson got some looks under center early in the year. The reason for Saban’s decision wasn’t necessarily because of what happened the week before, though. Instead, he and the staff wanted Milroe to adapt to a new playing style – and the legendary coach needed to convey that message. During SEC Media Days, Saban explained his decision to bench Milroe just three games into th...

DALLAS — Billy Napier has a bit of an aw shucks, Southern charm that he smartly uses to disarm reporters. There’s something about a wry smile and a strong handshake. So some seven minutes into a scrum with local and national media Wednesday at SEC Media Days, Florida’s embattled head coach had yet to be asked the question we were all there to see what he’d say. I like Napier. I understand the challenges and constant changes he inherited, but this is a big-boy business, so I fired away. There’s been a lot of outside noise surrounding your job security and where things stand (with the Gators), b...

The Texas Longhorns are making the jump to the SEC this season. The conference is a very familiar place for somebody like their head coach, Steve Sarkisian. He’s got many old colleagues in the SEC, including Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. They worked together under Nick Saban at Alabama. And Kiffin also served a critical role in helping Sarkisian’s professional rise from “rock bottom”. Wednesday evening at SEC Media Days in Dallas, Texas, Sarkisian explained his extensive past history with the Ole Miss head coach. “We do. We worked together. We fought together. We fought against each other. ...

There is an argument to be made that Julio Jones was the most important recruit of the Nick Saban era. An in-state five-star talent, Jones was the one who got the ball rolling for Alabama in the early days. Not just from a talent acquisition standpoint but Jones set the standard inside the program. Jones left after the 2009 season and became one of the top players in the NFL. Alabama kept its same standard during Saban’s entire tenure in Tuscaloosa but sometimes teaching moments were required. Not everybody was up to speed. Saban gave a story of a moment when Jones helped somebody out a few ye...

After 10 years with a four-team field, the College Football Playoff – much like the sport itself – its entering a new era. Starting in 2024, 12 teams will vie for a national championship, featuring the five highest-ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams. That means the selection process will be even more interesting to follow. Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban said he wants to see one metric carry more weight: strength of schedule. Saban, now an analyst for ESPN, pointed out what happened in college baseball this year. Florida went 13-17 in SEC play, but still m...
