Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said the UK's commitment to Ukraine is "ironclad". Lammy was speaking in Chobielin after meeting his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski where the two ministers discussed security issues ahead of next week’s NATO summit in Washington. They stressed both countries were prepared to provide long-term support to Ukraine, with Lammy saying that the UK took its commitment to Ukraine and NATO "very, very seriously indeed". "What I think will be achieved over the coming days is that we demonstrate to Putin that we are there for a long haul and that the finances to su...

A Dutch Patriot air defence system has been deployed to Lithuania as part of the annual international military exercise Baltic Connection 24. This system is intended to enhance the protection of the country's population and infrastructure against aircraft, drones, and missiles. Russia's intensifying aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities continue to highlight the growing shortage of sufficient air defence systems. The air defence battery arrived in Klaipeda port on Saturday morning and was due to be moved to Siauliai air base, from which it will carry out tasks for the coming two weeks. Lithuania ...

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán to Moscow on Friday for a rare meeting with a European leader to discuss peace proposals for Ukraine. Orbán's visit comes only days after he made a similar unannounced trip to Ukraine, where he met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and proposed that Ukraine consider agreeing to an immediate cease-fire with Russia. “The number of countries that can talk to both warring sides is diminishing,” Orbán said. “Hungary is slowly becoming the only country in Europe that can speak to everyone.” The reaction from Ukraine was...

Russia’s Defence Ministry did not mention the drone attack in Tombov in any of its statements. Meanwhile, the ministry has released footage which it says shows Russ...

Only days into it taking over the rotating presidency of the European Council and Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orbán has drawn the ire of Brussels for his unscheduled visit to Vladimir Putin in Moscow. It follows a surprise meeting with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Monday where the two were said to have had a relatively cordial meeting; considering Orban's flat refusal to provide political or military support for war-torn Ukraine. As soon as reports of the Moscow trip emerged, president of the European Council Charles Michel hit out at Orbán reminding him he has "no ma...

Ukraine’s army was forced to retreat from key positions on Thursday as Russia inched closer. A military spokesperson said Ukraine’s army was forced to retreat from the outskirts of Chasiv Yar, a strategically important town in the eastern Donetsk region that has been reduced to rubble after months of Russian shelling. For months, Russian forces have focused on capturing Chasiv Yar. It is strategically located on an elevated location, and its fall would put nearby cities in jeopardy, compromise critical Ukrainian supply routes and bring Russia closer to seizing the Donetsk region. Ukraine's def...

Russian shelling struck eastern Ukraine’s Dnipro in a daylight attack that killed at least five and left almost fifty injured. A video posted on social media by Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy showed a missile streaking over Ukraine’s fourth largest city. 47 people were injured in the attack, including a 14-year-old...

Finland's Prime Minister Petteri Orpo on Monday urged parliament not to weaken a deportation bill that would allow Finnish border authorities to refuse to accept asylum applications in certain circumstances. The government is trying to pass the measure in response to what it says is a surge in asylum seekers trying to cross the country's 1,340-kilometre border with Russia. "The law that we passed can of course be modified here in parliament, but not watered down. It doesn't make sense to create an emergency law that doesn't work" said Orpo. "From my perspective as Prime Minister, my stance is ...

Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán has to traveled to Kyiv early on Tuesday, in a surprise visit for one of Europe’s most pro-Russian leaders. Orbán is expected to meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in his first trip to neighbouring Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion more than two years ago. A source close to the Hungarian government told UK daily The Guardian, who first reported about the planned trip, that the plans had come together after lengthy negotiations on the issue of rights for Ukraine's Hungarian-speaking minority, who live in the far west of Ukraine. Buda...
