There are plenty of artists out there who have made a very good living after releasing just one hit single. But as Norman Greenbaum or Dexys Midnight Runners can tell you, it’s pretty hard to string together two, three or especially four. Many of the artists below have track records that pose an opposite and extremely enviable dilemma: How to pick the best four-single run from their long and storied careers? We took 20 of classic rock’s biggest and most influential artists, in no particular order, and selected their best four-single run. To keep things on an even playing ground we stuck with U...

While onstage at Bring Me the Horizon‘s show in Germany on Sunday (June 23), Oli Sykes polled the crowd about what song they want to hear and wound up calling one of the band’s huge hits “shit.” He also brought his dad out to sing “Antivist” with the band. In a video shared on X (seen below), Sykes kneels on the ground looking at the setlist for the night. “All right, what we’re gonna do… what would you like to hear?” he asks, and apparently he heard one fan shout out the pop-leaning amo track “Medicine.” “‘Medicine’? Are you guys all right? You guys would like to hear ‘Medicine’? Even I think...

Going beyond “Butterfly,” which of Crazy Town‘s deep cuts are the sickest? Today, the nu-metal world lost an iconic frontman as we learned Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock (born Seth Binzer) has passed away. READ MORE: Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock Has Died at 49Though many are likely familiar with the band’s breakout hit “Butterfly,” most of their discography sounds nothing like that. The band’s debut, The Gift of Game, for most of its runtime, is a dyed-in-the-wool nu-metal album. The lead single “Toxic” grooves out with a huge riff, setting them up to be a sure bet for any future inclusion o...

If you want to make a career in the music business, you have to cut your teeth somehow. For Elton John, known in his early days as simply “Reggie,” that meant doing quite a lot of work as a staff songwriter and sometimes a session pianist. One of those gigs was with the Hollies, who got together with John in June 1969 in what was then EMI Studios in London (it would later become Abbey Road Studios) to record a song written by Bob Russell and Bobby Scott called “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother,” originally recorded by the American singer-songwriter Kelly Gordon. According to Hollies guitarist T...

A lawsuit filed by the Recording Industry Association of America is demanding compensation of $150,000 for each song allegedly copied by artificial intelligence startups Suno and Udio. The corporations are accused of breaching copyright laws to create clones of hit singles by the RIAA, which says it represents around 85 per cent of all legal music sales in the U.S. including the major labels. “”The use here [of AI] is far from transformative,” the complainers argued in the suit, filed in New York and Massachusetts federal courts. “There is no functional purpose for… the AI model to ingest the ...

Finding a good Van Halen summer song is about as difficult as finding sand on the beach. The group got their start backyard parties in and around perpetually sunny Los Angeles, and remained the living embodiment of Southern California’s laid-back vibes even after becoming worldwide superstars. When original singer David Lee Roth and the Van Halen brothers were announcing their 2007 reunion tour, he explained that their set lists would be made up of “all the songs you have been hearing blasting out of the backs of pickup trucks at Burger King over the last 20 summers.” Although the group’s subj...

Here are Cannibal Corpse‘s six best slow songs. The death metal legends are among the most consistent bands in the scene, reliably cranking out high quality records that are technical, catchy and feature unmatched lyrical brutality. The deranged and frantic nature of the music is the ideal compliment to a bottomless well stories about all the violent things you can do to humans. As violent and gory as Cannibal Corpse are, they’ve always viewed their music to be like an audio version of a horror movie, rather than reflecting any real-world internal desires to carry out any of these atrocities. ...

It had been suspected that Ghost would be releasing a new song to coincide with their new movie, Rite Here Rite Now, which premiered earlier this week in London. At the premiere, mastermind Tobias Forge showed up to the red carpet with a new look, resembling Metallica‘s James Hetfield‘s early ’90s appearance. Rite Here Rite Now is a concert film with some traditional theatrical storytelling elements and is Ghost’s first-ever feature length movie. At the end, the band teases their next era with the death of Sister Imperator, who we learn is the mother of Papa Emeritus IV and Papa takes on the r...

It’s hard to think of a more quintessentially summertime subgenre than ’80s hard rock. The ’80s are long gone, but these sentiments are eternal — and that’s why you need The 20 Best ’80s Hard Rock Summer Songs on your next playlist. 20.
