South Korea's government said it will withdraw an earlier plan to suspend striking doctors' licenses. Thousands of junior doctors went on strike in February to protest the government's plan to increase school admissions. It wasn't immediately known how many would return to work after the latest announcement. Health Minister Cho Kyoo-Hong said the government has decided not to suspend the licenses of the strikers, regardless of whether they return to their hospitals. He said the decision is meant to address a shortage of doctors treating emergency patients. The government had withdrawn its plan...

A collective representing freelance film festival workers in France has called for a strike during the Cannes Film Festival, which begins next Monday (14 May). The labour group, called Sous les écrans, la dèche (Broke behind the screens), said the strike wasn’t meant to shut down the festival, or damage any of the films that are premiering in Cannes, but rather to “disturb” proceedings. A labour strike is an exceedingly rare occurrence for Cannes. The world’s largest film festival has only been affected by social action once in its 76 years of operation. In 1968, the 21st edition of the festiv...

''We would rather lose one or more days of pay than lose our freedom, convinced that the freedom and autonomy of public service are a value for all. And Rai belongs to everyone," USIGRai said in a video statement. The one-day strike is the latest protest by Italian journalists against what they say are threats to freedom of the press and expression in Italy — including c...
