The London-based International Maritime Bureau (IMB) has reported 60 instances of piracy on the world's seas in the first half of 2024. The Ukrainian authorities have seized a freighter on the Danube River for allegedly having docked illegally in the Russian-occupied Crimean port of Sevastopol, prosecutors announced on Thursday. The Usko MFU had dropped anchor in Sevastopol in November 2023 and in May 2024, loading up in the first instance with 3,000 tons of agricultural goods for a Turkish company. Washington (AFP) - The US trade gap grew slightly less than expected in May, to the widest level since late 2022, government data showed on Wednesday, as exports and imports both slipped. The overall deficit grew to $75.1 billion, from a revised $74.5 billion in April, said the Commerce Department. The dependence of German industry on foreign suppliers has slightly increased since 2020 despite mounting calls for greater resilience following the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new study published on Wednesday.
