Foreign Secretary David Lammy has said the UK's commitment to Ukraine is "ironclad". Lammy was speaking in Chobielin after meeting his Polish counterpart Radoslaw Sikorski where the two ministers discussed security issues ahead of next week’s NATO summit in Washington. They stressed both countries were prepared to provide long-term support to Ukraine, with Lammy saying that the UK took its commitment to Ukraine and NATO "very, very seriously indeed". "What I think will be achieved over the coming days is that we demonstrate to Putin that we are there for a long haul and that the finances to su...

It follows a surprise meeting with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv on Monday where the two were said to have had a relatively cordial meeting; considering Orban's flat refusal to provide political or military support for war-torn Ukraine. As soon as reports of the Moscow trip emerged, president of the European Council Charles Michel hit out at Orbán reminding him he has "no ma...

Russian shelling struck eastern Ukraine’s Dnipro in a daylight attack that killed at least five and left almost fifty injured. Missiles and drones struck a shopping centre in Dnipro on Wednesday, blowing out windows and raining shards on the street. Local mayor Borys Filatov said the attack also shattered windows in two schools and three kindergartens, and that debris also hit a children’s hospital. A video posted on social media by Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy showed a missile streaking over Ukraine’s fourth largest city. 47 people were injured in the attack, including a 14-year-old...

At least 11 people have been killed in Russian attacks across eastern Ukraine on Saturday, while rescuers in the city of Dnipro dug through rubble after a strike ripped through a nine-story residential building, leaving one person dead. In a post on X, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy said seven people had been killed in missile strik...

Russia's President Vladimir Putin has suggested resuming production of intermediate-range missiles that were banned under a now-defunct treaty with the United States. The Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty banned the use of ground-based nuclear and conventional missiles with a range of between 500-5,500 kilometres. It was regarded as an arms control landmark when Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and US President Ronald Reagan signed it in 1988. But America withdrew from the pact in 2019, citing Russian violations. "We need to start production of these strike systems and then, based ...

Ukraine's membership in the alliance is a duty of all member countries, and NATO allies have to commit to bolster its army, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said on Thursday. "Defence deterrence begins in Ukraine. The price we pay in supporting Ukraine in its efforts to defeat Russian imperialism is little compared to what would follow if aggression pays off," Kallas said at a joint press conference at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Kallas and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. The two underlined NATO's unwavering support for Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression and reaffirmed th...

Ukraine have been knocked out of the Euro 2024 football tournament at the group stage but the team will hopefully have left a resounding impact on the millions of people following the competition from near and afar. During their last match against Belgium, supporters held up a portrait of Nazariy Hryntsevich, a fallen Ukrainian soldier and football fan. Rippling to the vibrations of terrace stomps and reading 'Peace has a price', the banner is a stark reminder of the cost of war, as countless Ukrainian lives have been lost to defending their country since it was invaded by Russia on 24 Februar...
