Tim Walton credits approach to offensive explosion in WCWS semifinal: ‘Our kids are really starting to embrace that’

Florida isn’t fazed by the pressure. Through four innings against Oklahoma in the Women’s College World Series, the Gators boast 10 hits, seven of which have come with two outs on the board. During an in-game interview, UF head coach Tim Walton weighed in on his team’s clutch hitting.

“When you get to the College World Series, you got to be able to hit with two strikes and you got to be able to hit with two out. It’s the only way you’re going to have championship DNA,” Walton said. “Our kids are really starting to embrace that.

“I’ve told them we got to go a little bit earlier in the count. But today, obviously, we’re very fortunate. we’ve hit the ball really wild in all fields and that’s just a testament to the plan we’ve put together.”

Florida junior Kendra Falby particularly stepped up under pressure. Falby was 0-18 in her previous at-bats before hitting a line drive down the left field line in the bottom of the second inning. While Oklahoma struggled to recover, Falby recorded an inside-the-park home run, the first in a WCWS since 2014.

If Tim Walton and Co. lose on Monday, their season will be over. However, if the Gators can pull out a win, they will face off against Oklahoma once more in an elimination game with an appearance in the WCWS Final on the line.
