Kentucky baseball senior Mitchell Daly is one of the only guys in the Wildcat dugout to have the experience of participating in the College World Series, and he’s very confident the Wildcats can advance to Omaha this weekend.

Daly previously played at Texas, and had a standout freshman year before struggling a bit more as a sophomore and junior. After 2023, he decided to try a new home and wound up in the SEC with Kentucky, who he’s now helping to hopefully achieve the same goal of making the CWS.

No. 2 overall seeded UK swept their regional in three games with wins against all three of the other teams in the region. Now, they’ll host No. 15 Oregon State in the super regional round after the Beavers also took a broom to their own regional.

Ahead of the matchup this weekend, Daly was one of several Wildcats to speak with media. One reporter asked if Daly had confidence in Kentucky advancing to the College World Series, and if so, where that confidence comes from.

“Yeah, just the mentality,” he answered. “These guys in the locker room are just a bunch of winners. When you have that mentality and a long lineup of people that just want to compete and want to grind out pitchers and attack on the mound, you’re going to be in a good spot. Total confidence in this team going forward, and we’re excited for it.”

Mitchell Daly’s comments fall right in line with statements made by head coach Nick Mingione throughout the season, who has often touted his team’s competitiveness up and down the lineup, which makes for one of the best and most competitive college baseball clubs in the country.

Another veteran player, shortstop Grant Smith, also spoke this week on why Kentucky is such an interconnected group.

“I felt it, I think we all felt it from day one, just how close the guys started to become and how much we were pulling for each other,” answered Smith. “There’s definitely uncommon selflessness about this team, much like last year’s team, and I think that’s why we were both able to be successful.”

Grant Smith notes that from top to bottom, Kentucky’s dugout is full of dudes committed to the bigger goal: “But just the depth the team has, the commitment to winning this team has, I think will go — I think it’s paid off pretty well.”

Now, Kentucky fans will gear up for the biggest home baseball series perhaps in program history, since the ‘Cats will be competing to make their first-ever trip to Omaha for the College World Series.
