Tree kills three people in car during storm in France

Three people in a car were killed by a falling tree during a storm in eastern France.

The tree crashed with great force into the car, which was travelling on a country road near the village of Rosnay-l'Hôpital in the Aube region on Saturday evening, the France 3 channel reported on Sunday, citing the local fire brigade.

Three of the car's occupants, aged around 80, were killed, while rescue workers freed a fourth trapped person with life-threatening injuries.

Heavy storms and rain also caused considerable damage and flooding in other places in eastern France on Saturday. Regional rail services were cancelled as a precautionary measure.
