Brad Keselowski hopes NASCAR adds international oval instead of race course

Brad Keselowski has one request for NASCAR when the drivers compete in international races. On Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour podcast, Keselowski told Kevin Harvick that he wants NASCAR to add an international oval instead of a race course.

“I wish when we went to these international events that they were ovals,” Keselowski said. “…One of the things I love about Iowa is a new track on the NASCAR Cup Series circuit, and for the first time in what feels like forever, it was an oval. I feel like the last half a dozen new tracks we’ve added a road course. A road course is kind of like the easy thing to do. To add a road course to the schedule, there’s plenty of them, it’s not really hard to make one.

“To add an actual oval to the schedule and if you could do it internationally I think would be huge. Whether that be some kind of scenario like a temporary course like we had at L.A. for the Clash or whatever it might be. But if we could do a real oval internationally, to me that’s the holy grail. I think that would connect with our fans and our partners and everyone in a way that tells the story of NASCAR in the best way possible.

A potentially big update for NASCAR international races in 2025

NASCAR is no strangers to international races as the Truck Series held races in Canada , and the Xfinity Series has run points-paying races in Montreal and Mexico City, according to Motorsport.com. When it comes to the Cup Series, there hasn’t been an international points-paying race on that level during the modern era. However, that could change very soon as Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reported that Mexico City could land on the Cup Series schedule next year.

“For years we said we want to go outside the U.S. and race, and you’ve seen us move from the messaging of it’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when,” Chad Seigler, NASCAR vice president and chief international officer told Motorsport.com in. “I would tell you that we’re leaning even closer now to, ‘Yes, we are going.’ I feel confident we’re going to be there sooner than later.”

Seigler added: “We are actively engaged with multiple markets right now. We’ve been close and we feel like we’re close for the very near future. What makes us feel good is that these are not one-way discussions, it’s any market we’ve spoken to, there has been excitement on both sides.”
