Joey Logano captured the win after some wild racing at the end of the Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway, but not everyone was in a congratulatory mood.
Chris Gabehart, Denny Hamlin’s crew chief, had some choice words in the form of a joke for Logano following the race. It makes sense, as the two drivers got into it a bit on the track on Sunday, but it was the No. 22 who found Victory Lane.
Check out the post from Gabehart on X (formerly known as Twitter) where he called Logano slow, believing it actually worked to his advantage, as he was able to avoid the wrecks over the first couple overtimes because of it.
“He was s l o w. That’s how. Lol,” Gabehart posted on X, responding to a post about Logano’s win at Nashville.
Regardless of what Gabehart thinks, Logano will take the win, as he’s needed one more than ever during a rough 2024 for the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. Also, Gabehart had Hamlin in the lead when the race first went to overtime, so perhaps there’s some sour grapes there, as well.
Nevertheless, Denny Hamlin and the No. 11 team have three wins on the season, but they had to watch their fourth slip into Joey Logano’s hands, due to a myriad of wrecks and fuel issues. That stings, and Chris Gabehart wasn’t happy about it, as you can tell.

Alas, Chris Gabehart recognizes how close Denny Hamlin was to winning in Nashville, only to be let down by the caution flag. In a race that featured multiple overtimes, Hamlin eventually ran out of fuel and finished in 12th place.
Hamlin was the race leader by a solid margin as it came to a close, with just two laps to go when Austin Cindric spun out and drew a caution flag. That sent the race to overtime, where fuel became a problem for Hamlin. He pushed it as far as he could go but ultimately ran out of fuel.
“We ran out there under that caution,” Denny Hamlin said in a post-race interview on the track. “[Crew chief Chris Gabehart] was monitoring fuel pressure. I let him know what the fuel pressure was. We were fine with just running out of gas, but we did under caution. So it was the right call. I was going down pit lane there out of gas. I was surprised it lasted that many green/white checkereds, honestly.
“Certainly stinks, about 15 seconds from a win at the end and then 10 seconds from the win at the end and then we finished 12th. It’s just part of it.”
Alas, it had to have been disappointing for Hamlin to finish in 12th after such a great performance, being right on the cusp of the win a couple times. Sometimes that’s just how it goes, though.
