Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman only appeared in four games last season due to an injury. However, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller saw enough in those four games to feel great about Weigman’s future.

Miller has Conner Weigman at No. 19 overall to the Los Angeles Rams in his latest 2025 NFL mock draft. He joined SportsCenter on Tuesday and explained why he is so high on the junior signal caller.

“Conner Weigman coming back, last year he played four games, missed the rest of the season because of a foot injury. Those four games were fantastic,” Miller said. “I would argue as good as any quarterback we saw last year – 16 touchdowns, 2 interceptions.”

Weigman actually had eight touchdowns and two interceptions last year, but dating back to the 2022 season, he had 16 touchdowns and two picks over the past two years.

Texas A&M hired Mike Elko as its new head coach this offseason and Miller expects Weigman to thrive in 2024 and prove that he is a first-round talent.

“He’s athletic. He has a big arm. And A&M is loaded,” Miller said. “We have a new coaching staff coming in here, should open things up for Weigman. If he can stay healthy and build on what we saw last year in those first four games, he could be special.”

Opposing coach tabs Conner Weigman as ‘the key’ for Texas A&M

Texas A&M is entering a new era for the program, moving on from Jimbo Fisher after a disappointing 2023 season. Mike Elko is returning to College Station and despite being in Year One, there is some optimism and not just inside the program.

An anonymous coach recently gave his thoughts on the Aggies, believing they will be good this season. In his opinion, Fisher struggled down the stretch of his tenure because of the quarterback position. Texas A&M could never really get it locked down after Kellen Mond left.

“I think they’ll be good,” the coach said via Lindy’s Sports Magazine. “That’s not to say Jimbo Fisher was a bad coach. He is a very good coach. I think what hurt him, he had so much turnover at the quarterback position, most of it due to injury. They never got in sync with a quarterback.”

Conner Weigman was the starting quarterback to begin last year. But as mentioned, injuries have been a problem. Weigman has just eight career starts in his two years on campus and saw his 2023 campaign after four games.

Another coach says if Weigman can stay healthy, he will wind up being the factor in having a good season.

“I think (QB) Conner Weigman is the key; I do,” the second anonymous coach said. “The SEC is a lot like the NFL, you’ve got to have a quarterback. And when Weigman got hurt last year, it really impacted A&M.”
