£25m player who reportedly wants to join Liverpool now sends message to Cody Gakpo

Liverpool star Cody Gakpo delivered another exceptional performance for the Netherlands at Euro 2024 on Tuesday.

Cody Gakpo has impressed at this summer’s tournament in Germany and helped the Netherlands book their spot in the quarter-final with a 3-0 win over Romania yesterday.

The Liverpool forward opened the scoring with an excellent finish in the 20th minute before setting up Holland’s second of the evening.

Gakpo took his goal tally to three in four games at Euro 2024, while his assist for Donyell Malen was his first of the tournament.

The victory has set up a clash with Turkey on Saturday and Ronald Koeman’s men will fancy their chances of securing a spot in the semi-final.

And after yet another encouraging display at the Euros, a Liverpool transfer target has reacted to Gakpo’s performance.

Lutsharel Geertruida sends message to Gakpo

Gakpo took to Instagram last night after booking his spot in the next round with an eye-catching performance.

A host of players commented on the post, including Arsenal star Jurrien Timber. But interestingly, a player who is on Liverpool’s radar this summer also congratulated Gakpo on his performance.

Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida is reportedly keen on a reunion with Arne Slot at Anfield.

The £25 million-rated star is currently at Euro 2024 with Gakpo and the Netherlands but is yet to start a game due to Koeman’s wealth of options in defence.

Nevertheless, he was quick to respond to Gakpo’s post while Curtis Jones also reacted to his Liverpool teammate’s display and remarked ‘what a player’.

Liverpool face competition for Geertruida

The Reds already have a pretty significant Dutch contingent at the club, with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Ryan Gravenberch, Gakpo and Slot.

Should they firm up their interest in Geertruida, that could prove beneficial as they are set to face competition from the likes of PSG and Tottenham.

The 25-year-old would represent an intriguing option for Liverpool as he is able to operate in a variety of roles, including centre-back, right-back and central midfield.

Of course, Geertruida is a player that Slot knows very well from their time in Rotterdam together and this could be one to keep an eye on this summer.
