The LSU Tigers are turning over several key roster spots on offense. That includes quarterback, where Garrett Nussmeier is taking over.
LSU is also looking at several wide receivers to step up in 2024. That includes Kyren Lacy, who Garrett Nussmeier explained has done a great job improving while he was at the Manning Passing Academy.
“Kyren’s done an unbelievable job,” Garrett Nussmeier said. “Just his growth as a person, as a player, has been unreal. He looks different now. He thinks different now and he’s really stepped up into his role. I think he’s going to do an unreal job, an unbelievable job, and he is a darn good football player and I think a lot of people will see that.”
At that point, Garrett Nussmeier issued a challenge to all the teams LSU is going to be playing this season.
“You know, I really hope people try to guard him one-on-one and shout out to all the defenses we’re playing this year,” Nussmeier said. “Please try to guard Kyren one-on-one. If you don’t, then you’re gonna leave Chris Hilton one-on-one. So, I’m excited about that too.”
Kyren Lacy came to LSU as a transfer ahead of the 2022 season from Louisiana. Since then, he’s played in 27 games for the Tigers and has 54 receptions for 826 yards and seven touchdowns. All of those touchdowns came in 2023.
It’s possible that Kyren Lacy could have made a larger impact earlier. He’s talented enough, but the Tigers have had plenty of depth blocking him with players like Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas ahead of him on the depth chart.
Brian Kelly expects Kyren Lacy to have monster season in 2024
This spring, when LSU head coach Brian Kelly was asked which player is going to break out for a monster season, he didn’t hesitate to point to Kyren Lacy.
“It’s Kyren Lacy,” Brian Kelly said.
“I think more than anything else, he was the No. 3 guy last year. He becomes the No. 1 guy this year. And the history and tradition of wide receiver play at LSU, that’s a pretty high bar. But I think he’s met it this spring and now he gets a chance to really carry that mantle going into this [spring] game.”
