Texas A&M outfielder Caden Sorrell has announced his intention to withdraw from the NCAA Transfer Portal and return to the Aggies. Sorrell initially entered the transfer portal on June 26, but shared his decision to come back to College Station via social media.

In his debut campaign with the Aggies in 2024, Sorrell made 61 appearances and registered 178 at-bats. He recorded a .275 batting average, 11 home runs, 42 RBI, 49 hits, seven doubles, five triples, nine stolen bases and 24 walks.

Sorrell played high school baseball at Flower Mound Marcus High School (TX), where he was the No. 100 overall prospect and No. 19 outfielder in the 2023 recruiting cycle, according to Perfect Game. Additionally, he was the No. 9 recruit from the Lone Star State.

Caden Sorrell was one of numerous Aggies to enter the transfer portal after head coach Jim Schlossnagle left the program to take over at Texas. Schlossnagle accepted Texas’ offer only one day after Texas A&M fell in Game 3 of the national championship against Tennessee.

Texas A&M hires Michael Earley as next head coach

It didn’t take Texas A&M long to find Schlossnagle’s replacement. On Sunday, the university officially named Michael Earley the program’s next head coach.

Earley was the hitting coach for the Aggies for the past three years, helping guide the team to two College World Series appearances and a national runner-up finish in 2024.

During his time in College Station, he helped develop the Aggies into one of the most powerful offenses in the SEC. In 2024, Texas A&M set program records for home runs (136) and walks (422). The Aggies led the nation in walks.

“I am happy to announce that Michael Earley has been hired as our new Aggie baseball head coach,” Texas A&M athletic director Trev Alberts said in a press release. “Michael is a very talented coach and recruiter, but what stood out to me was his character and the relationships he has built with his current and former players. During our interview process he was really impressive.

“I think it helps that he knows our current roster, which finished second in the country, and he also knows Aggieland and the 12th Man. I am excited about the future of Aggie baseball. Please help me welcome home Michael and his family back to Aggieland.”

Alberts isn’t the only one excited for the new era of Texas A&M baseball.

“My family and I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity,” said Earley. “Thank you, General Welsh and Trev Alberts for putting your trust in me. Being a part of this University and this program are a dream come true. I will not let you down. See you in Omaha!”
