‘Guardiola taught him a lot’: Nottingham Forest player claims Man City ace ‘is not a star’

Manchester City have a significant number of top-class players in their squad.

Having won four Premier League trophies in a row, the Blues have gone on to see a large number of their players represent their countries in this summer’s international tournaments.

However, one key City man, who has not been involved on the international stage this summer, has found himself being spoken about by one current Premier League player, who has made an interesting claim about him.

Murillo claims Erling Haaland is not a star player

When discussing Erling Haaland and what it’s like to play against him, Murillo had this to say on the matter in a recent video shared on the Beija Me Mucho YouTube channel.

He said: “Playing with the City team makes it much easier. Some centre-forwards who have more awareness of positioning and finishing, score a lot of goals with them.

“[Pep] Guardiola taught him a lot, you see a lot in the City squad also. Haaland is not a star, but he is a good player, he scores. Ball in the box, aerial, to score he is unreal. He is tall, strong and fast as hell.”

Haaland is a star

Having scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund before he made his move to the Etihad Stadium in 2022, this shows that Haaland knew how to score goals on a fairly regular basis before he started working with Guardiola.

During his time with the Citizens, the striker, who Mohammed Kudus recently named as one of the best players he’s ever faced off against, has found the back of the net 90 times in 98 appearances across all competitions.

One of those goals came just nine minutes after he came on in the second half of City’s 2-0 away win at Forest in the Premier League last season, shortly before Murillo was forced off with an injury.

Overall, we disagree with Murillo that Haaland is not a star, as his phenomenal goalscoring record puts him above a lot of strikers in world football right now.
