Tyler Reddick: Everyone had fans pointed at their cars during Nashville rain delay

During the weather delay at Nashville Superspeedway, Austin Cindric received a penalty for having a fan pointed at his car. Tyler Reddick says everyone did. Did NASCAR come down too harshly on the No. 2 team?

Rain and thunderstorms rolled through just short of halfway through the Ally 400 last Sunday. As the field started to get ready to roll back onto the track, Austin Cindric was told he had to go to the tail end of the field.

NASCAR officials felt that the team had their fan, which was being used to dry the pit box, pointed at and too close to the race car. NASCAR argued this was cooling the car down quicker. So, they put Cindric at the back of the pack.

Tyler Reddick talked to Denny Hamlin on Actions Detrimentalthis week. From Reddick’s perspective, every team had a fan pointed at their cars.

“So does it have to be over the wall, I guess?” Reddick asked. “Because everybody else, like I looked up and down pit road, everyone had their fans pointed at their cars but they were on pit road, just not from the pit box, I guess.”

Reddick later doubled down, saying he saw teams with fans pointed directly at the tires. Both Hamlin and Reddick were uncertain if every official was on the same page on the rules. So, it led to confusion.

“That was the confusing part for me, is I looked up and down pit road and there was a lot of cars with their fans pointed right at the tires, trying to cool the tires,” the 23XI Racing driver explained.

You could argue that penalty is what put Austin Cindric in position to wreck, sending this race into the five-overtime chaos that it ended up being.

Tyler Reddick couldn’t believe he lost

After the Ally 400, Tyler Reddick was upset. He was the only car that had been up front all day, had speed all day, and he lost to two lesser cars. You can blame it on the cautions, the overtimes, pit strategy, but Reddick had the winning car and couldn’t do it.

He was clearly shaken after the race. It looked like he had seen a ghost.

“I’m trying my best, Kim, but it’s tough,” Reddick said after the race. “I’m trying to keep it cool at the moment, I’m really upset about how that ended.”

Reddick refused to take any positives away from the race. It was one of those that slipped through his fingers.

“No. All the good cars ran out of fuel and we were in position to pass 22, hadn’t been good all day long. Didn’t get the job done. So…”

While Tyler Reddick didn’t get it done on Sunday, he has more chances. For every Talladega win at the last second, there is a heartbreaker like Nashville.
