'I'd be surprised': Leeds are now unlikely to sign 'brilliant' free agent after June development - journalist

Leeds United have completed just one piece of incoming transfer business so far this summer.

The Whites sealed the return of former loanee Joe Rodon earlier this week as part of the deal that saw Archie Gray join Tottenham Hotspur for £40 million.

Rodon’s move was reported to be a separate transaction costing £10 million and given how important he became last season, it is an excellent piece of business.

However, if Leeds are to go one better and win promotion next season, it is important they do not rest on their laurels when it comes to new signings.

Leeds still have various positions which require reinforcements, whether that is to upgrade on what they currently have, or replace those that have departed.

Journalist shares update on Leeds’ interest in Callum O’Hare

On paper, you could make a case for Leeds still needing to strengthen in every area of the pitch, but due to continuity and finances that is unlikely to happen.

Gray‘s departure means midfield is certainly somewhere that needs looking at and given the lack of goals from that position during the 2023/24 season, someone who can find the back of the net would elevate the level of the squad.

Free agent midfielder Callum O’Hare is someone who has been mentioned as a potential target, with Coventry City having confirmed his exit earlier this week.

However, the ‘brilliant‘ O’Hare is very much more of a number 10 than eight, and speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.News, transfer expert Graeme Bailey does not see that one happening.

Bailey has suggested that recently relegated Burnley currently have the most interest in him, and after Leeds’ decision to bring back Brenden Aaronson last month, it does not look as though he is a target.

He said: “We know Burnley like him but he’s not one I’ve heard much about with Leeds. I am not sure they are massively in the mix for Callum O’Hare, especially with Brenden Aaronson coming back. I’d be surprised.”

Leeds still need another number 10 as well as Aaronson

As mentioned, Daniel Farke has already moved quickly to address Leeds’ number 10 shortage by reintegrating Aaronson back into the fold after his loan spell at Union Berlin.

However, over a 46-game season, Aaronson alone will not be enough and extra competition in that role is needed.

Joel Piroe spent a lot of last year in that position after his arrival from Swansea City, but is actually already attracting interest from abroad and just doesn’t fit into Farke’s system.

Signing O’Hare would provide Farke with two excellent options for that position heading into the season, without having to shoehorn others in there.
