Stan Collymore hails Nico Williams amid Arsenal links

The player in question is Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, who has been outstanding for Spain over the past few weeks.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Arsenal have tabled a bid for Williams, with a release clause worth £49million said to be active.

Collymore, writing on CaughtOffside, sung Spain’s praises and said the reported Gunners target was one of the Roja players exceeding expectations.

“If I’m looking at other nations that you’re expecting to be there or thereabouts, you can’t really look much beyond Spain,” he said.

“Obviously the young lads, Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams are exceeding all expectations.

“The squad have stuck with the remit of the 2010/2012 Spanish team but with a bit more flair. A big shout out for Rodri too.”

Who is Arsenal target Nico Williams?

Williams is a Spanish footballer who plies his trade for Athletic Bilbao and represents Spain.

The 21-year-old began his football journey at Osasuna before joining the Athletic academy in 2013 and working his way up the ranks.

Williams has become a superstar at the Basque club, registering 20 goals and 24 assists from 122 outings.

His efforts helped Athletic win the Copa del Rey this year, ending their 40-year wait for silverware.

The Spain international has been labelled an “incredible” athlete, and there have been suggestions that he’s faster than Kylian Mbappe.

Now, Williams will hope to help La Roja win their first major trophy in 12 years.
