'We are a joke': Arsenal fans react after hearing who Edu has reportedly sold

Arsenal are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks as Edu and Mikel Arteta look to improve their squad.

The Gunners did well last season, challenging for the Premier League title right until to the final day, but they’re not quite the finished article just yet.

Arsenal won’t just be focusing on incomings, however. They’ll need to sell players to free up wages and squad spaces, and to stay on the right side of profit and sustainability rules.

Although some players appear surplus to requirements and wouldn’t surprise anyone by leaving, other transfer decisions may prove a bit more controversial.

This certainly appears to be the case with one academy graduate Arsenal are reported to have sold.

Arsenal fans not happy with £4m Mika Biereth sale

The player in question is Arsenal academy forward Mika Biereth. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners have sold him to Sturm Graz for £4million.

Arsenal have included a sell-on clause in the deal, added the transfer insider.

Biereth is now on the books at the club where he impressed on loan earlier this year.

Some Arsenal fans have voiced their opinions on the 21-year-old’s departure, claiming that they either shouldn’t have sold him, or that they should’ve got more money for him.

Silver lining for Arsenal in Biereth sale

At Sturm Graz, Biereth was a key player as they won the Austrian double and qualified for the Champions League next season.

However, maybe Arteta didn’t feel he could give him regular game time at Arsenal next season.

And with his contract expiring in 2025, a decision had to be made this summer.

There is a silver lining for Arsenal fans, namely that a sell-on clause was inserted in the deal.

The way Biereth is progressing, the likelihood he makes a big move in the next few years is high.
