Manchester City Women have now signed ‘unique’ player from Arsenal

The previous Women’s Super League campaign ended up being a disappointing one for Manchester City.

Gareth Taylor’s side missed out on winning the title due to the goal difference between City and Chelsea who were crowned champions.

Both sides ended the campaign with 55 points having won, drawn and lost the same number of games, although the West London club scored 10 more goals than the Blues.

Now though, ahead of the upcoming season, the Manchester club have just announced that they have made a significant transfer deal and signed a player from one of their close rivals.

Man City Women announce signing of Vivianne Miedema from Arsenal

In a recent post shared on the club’s official website, City’s women’s side announced that they have signed Vivianne Miedema from Arsenal as their first incoming transfer of the summer window.

The 27-year-old striker has joined the Blues on a three-year deal after spending seven years at the North London club.

Miedema is a top goalscorer

After scoring 52 goals in 78 appearances for Bayern Munich, Miedema joined Arsenal back in 2017.

During his time with Arsenal Women, the Dutch international found the back of the net 122 times in 161 games across all competitions.

On the international stage, the 27-year-old has bagged 95 goals in 118 games, further highlighting how much of a top goalscorer she is.

Jill Roord, who has been at City since last summer, said this to UEFA about her former Arsenal teammate Miedema back in May.

She said: “She’s unique in women’s football. She’s one of a kind, an absolute killer. You see it in men’s football – players who are so cool in front of the goal – but I don’t think anybody else in women’s football has that to her extent.”

Taking all of that into account, it’s undeniable that Miedema is a top striker and a very exciting signing for City.

With Taylor’s side only missing out on last season’s title on goal difference, it comes as no surprise that they’ve now added such a prolific goalscorer to their ranks.
