Report: Arsenal have made bid of £50m to sign a 'very talented' player

Arsenal are yet to make a signing this summer, but that could be about to change.

Indeed, over the past few days, the Gunners have been strongly linked with a move for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori, and that interest appears to be stepping up.

The north London club’s opening offer for the defender was said to be knocked back earlier this week, but that seemingly hasn’t deterred Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal make increased Riccardo Calafiori bid

According to Gazetta in Italy, Arsenal have made an increased €55m (£50m) bid for Riccardo Calafiori.

The ‘very talented’ defender has been named as a target for the likes of Chelsea and PSG in recent times, but it’s Arsenal who appear to be leading the race to land the defender.

The Italian may have exited the tournament early, but he proved to be one of the better players at Euro 2024, and if he can carry those performances through to the Premier League, Arsenal should have a star on their hands.

Interestingly, this report also claims that Calafiori has agreed personal terms with Arsenal, with a salary of €4m-a-year said to be agreed.

Arsenal need more signings

Arsenal seem to be prioritising a move for Calafiori, but there are other signings that need to be targeted in the coming weeks.

Arsenal still need a new striker through the door, and depending on what happens with Thomas Partey this summer, a new midfielder should also be a priority.

Of course, whether or not this £50m bid for Calafiori is accepted remains to be seen, but this is a very good fee for a player who has only had one truly stellar season in his career to date.

Arsenal had the best defensive record in the Premier League last term, but it appears they’re not going to rest on their laurels and are trying to further improve their backline.
