After completing 7th summer signing, it's clear Sheffield Wednesday have an edge in transfer window - opinion

Danny Rohl has made seven signings prior to Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday continue to stretch their arms in the transfer market, having started the summer window as they meant to go on with the notable signings of Yan Valery and Max Lowe to provide depth at wing-back.

Danny Rohl’s side have also captured the imagination with the signing of Olaf Kobacki, who contributed 16 goals and seven assists with Polish side Arka Gdynia.

The Owls will be hoping to build on last season’s hugely successful campaign under Rohl, having survived relegation from the Championship after finishing the season with three consecutive wins.

They have aimed high in their recruitment under Rohl and have been delivering success throughout the window, beating other Championship rivals to signing the likes of Jamal Lowe.

Rohl has now struck a loan move for a Premier League keeper, making it seven signings ahead of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, showing that Hillsborough is a place many players want to play at next season.

Sheffield Wednesday complete first summer loan deal for James Beadle

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan signing of James Beadle following last season’s successful loan spell in the second half of the 2023/24 Championship season has taken the tally of arrivals at Hillsborough up to seven, above and beyond what anyone predicted prior to the summer transfer window.

The English goalkeeper previously signed for the Owls in January last campaign after a successful spell in League One with Oxford United at the start of the 2023/24 season.

Rohl clearly favoured the young shot-stopper, who started 19 games in a row in the second half of the 2023/24 campaign, managing eight clean sheets and also conceding just four goals in Sheffield Wednesday’s last six games of the season as they narrowly avoided relegation in style.

Why James Beadle return is good news for the rest of the transfer window at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday and Rohl have almost worked hand-in-hand in increasing the stature of both the club and manager since his arrival last season.

Rohl has since taken part in ITV’s coverage of Euro 2024, in which this publicity has seemingly contributed to the incomings in S6 ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The ripple effect of Sheffield Wednesday securing the signatures of the likes of Valery and Lowe early on in the window is very much taking place as well, shown by a player of Beadle’s quality committing to a further year at Hillsborough.

Players and clubs are realising that Rohl has the capabilities to get the best out of any squad, as shown by surviving with a squad that Xisco Munoz did not achieve a single win with.

Rohl’s increased reputation can of course prove to be a double-edged sword, with Premier League clubs set to be very much aware of his talents and progress with Sheffield Wednesday, however the short term gains of attracting such talents ahead of the Championship season can only bring positivity to Hillsborough.
