‘Set to join’: Fabrizio Romano says Man City are close to signing teenage defender

Manchester City have seen many young talents move in and out of their academy.

Some of the names to have featured in City’s youth ranks include Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, Jadon Sancho, James Trafford, Shea Charles, James McAtee, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and many more.

In fact, Ben Wilkinson, one of the coaches in City’s academy, said back in May that when Lewis was in the youth ranks, he reminded him of Philipp Lahm.

While some start their youth careers in City’s academy, the club have been known to sign other youngsters from a variety of different sides in England and beyond.

Now though, it has been claimed that the Blues are closing in on the signing of another exciting young talent.

Fabrizio Romano says Man City are close to signing Marlow Barrett

In a recent post shared on his official X account, Fabrizio Romano had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Manchester City working on new signing for the Academy as they are closing in on the signing of Coventry City talent Marlow Barrett.

“City have beaten several Premier League top clubs to defender who’s set to join #MCFC Academy.”

Barrett must be an exciting talent

With Romano claiming that City have beaten several Premier League clubs to Barrett’s signature, this suggests to us that the 15-year-old is an exciting talent who these clubs must feel has what it takes to potentially become a first-team player in the future.

Moving forward, if City do end up landing a deal for the Coventry teenager, it’ll be interesting to see how the defender fares in the club’s youth ranks and if he’s able to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Foden, Lewis and Bobb to become a first-team player in City’s senior squad.
