Exclusive: Latest update given over Mikel Arteta's future at Arsenal as contract talks continue

Arsenal might be looking to make new signings for their playing squad but they could now be about to secure another huge deal as well.

The Gunners have been reinvigorated under the management of Mikel Arteta, who, along with Edu, has helped the club back to challenging for titles and Champions League football.

Despite falling short in the title race in the last two seasons, Arsenal remain firmly behind Arteta and are ready to back him this summer to go again next term.

And in what is potentially massive news for the club, it looks like things are progressing along when it comes to keeping Arteta around for the long-term.

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta edging towards new contract

TBR Football understands that Arsenal are progressing with talks over a new deal for manager Mikel Arteta.

Arteta’s current deal is due to expire in just 12-months, but the club have remained calm as they don’t doubt his commitment.

However, despite being supremely confident that Arteta fully intends to commit his future to them TBR is told that the club would like the deal signed and sealed before the Premier League season begins.

The Gunners are determined to keep hold of the Spaniard and know that huge clubs in Europe, such as Barcelona, have cast an eye over Arteta in the past.

Similarly, Arteta has also been earmarked as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola, should he decided to leave Manchester City in the next few years.

Tying Arteta down to a new deal, then, will feel huge for Arsenal.

The Gunners board have backed Arteta to the hilt in recent windows and he has spent more than £400m on assembling a squad capable of challenging.

Arsenal are now looking to add more players as well, with Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori said to be a player they are super keen on.
