What is the population of Switzerland?

Switzerland is estimated to have a population of roughly 8.5 million people, a smaller population than the likes of Belgium and Austria.

The Swiss Football Association was founded in 1895 and the country played its first international match in 1905 against France.

Since then they have gone on to appear at seven World Cups and six European Championships.

Murat Yakin is currently the Switzerland national manager, having held the position since 2021.

Yakin is a former Swiss international, making 49 appearances for his country between 1994-2004.

Following his retirement, the former defender moved into management going on to manage a number of top Swiss teams such as FC Basel and Grasshoppers.

The 49-year-old took over as Switzerland’s manager following the exit of Vladmir Petkovic after Euro 2020.
