Charles Omenihu gives injury update ahead of Kansas City Chiefs training camp

For 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs need to avoid any deadlock that could jeopardize their three-peat mission.

Injuries are the main obstacle that all franchises naturally face during the season. It’s almost inevitable.

KC will be heading for training camp in the second half of July and some of the team’s players are still not 100% healthy enough to participate fully in training sessions.

Xavier Worthy, a promising prospect to provide speed in the passing game and make a good duo with Hollywood Brown, suffered a hamstring injury during rookie minicamp and missed mandatory camp.

In addition, other players are still recovering from injuries sustained last season.

All of them are expected to be ready for TC.

Update on Chris Omenihu

Defensive lineman Charles Omenihu continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered in last year’s AFC Championship Game.

Last month, it was known that he would start July on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Andy Reid hadn’t mentioned anything new about the defensive lineman.

The head coach has yet to comment on the player’s status, but Omenihu himself has given frequent updates to Chiefs Kingdom.

Last 30th, DL attended the Jeremy Hills youth football camp at Crump Stadium in Alief. He spoke with KPRC about his rehabilitation process.

“It’s going good,” told Aaron Wilson, from KPRC. “Slow process, everybody told me it was going to be like that, but it’s been decent,”.

“Honestly, right now, I’m steady, I’m cool. I got to be like this. I kind of keep myself like that, just stay plain and we’ll get to the point where I ramp it up like that.” he added.

He may not be fit for training camp, but Omenihu plans to make up for “lost time” as soon as he is physically able.

The importance of having Charles Omenihu in defense

Omenihu recorded seven sacks during the 2023 season, playing in 11 regular season games after serving an early-season suspension.

He secured a sack on league MVP Lamar Jackson before leaving the AFC Championship game due to injury.

Under his new contract, which features $8.6 million in guaranteed money and a signing bonus of $7.25 million, Omenihu is entering the peak of his career statistically.

KC’s defense carried the offense on its shoulders for many games in 2023.
