'At this point': Journalist shares what he's now hearing about Julian Alvarez potentially joining Chelsea

Manchester City have a track record when it comes to selling players to fellow Premier League sides.

In recent years, players such as Raheem Sterling, Cole Palmer, Tommy Doyle, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko have left the Etihad Stadium to join other top-flight sides.

During this current summer transfer window, it was reported by TyC Sports that Chelsea, who signed Palmer and Sterling from City, have an interest in landing a deal for Julian Alvarez.

Now – however – a journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details on what the current situation is regarding this particular topic.

Journalist shares details on Chelsea’s interest in Julian Alvarez

Appearing in a recent edition of the London Is Blue podcast, journalist Ben Jacobs had this to say about Chelsea’s recent links with Alvarez after playing down the possibility of them landing a deal for Victor Osimhen this summer.

He said: “The same can be said for Julian Alvarez, that Chelsea have discussed him internally.

“But they’re not moving at this point, because one, they don’t think that Manchester City want to sell. And two, to change City’s mind, they’d not only have to get Alvarez’s buy-in, and it’s not advanced, it’s not developed to that point.

“There’s been no approach. And on top of that, it’s £70-plus million. So not an easy deal to get done.”

City should not consider selling Alvarez this summer

Since Alvarez arrived at the Etihad Stadium back in the summer of 2022, the striker has gone on to make 103 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring 36 goals and delivering 18 assists along the way.

Taking into account how the 24-year-old appeared in more Premier League games (36) than any other City player last season, starting 31 of them, it’s clear that he is a very important player for the Citizens.

This, therefore, makes us think that City should not be thinking about selling Alvarez, who has also caught the attention of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, this summer, to Chelsea or any other club.

Now that Jacobs has said that there has been no approach from Chelsea and highlighted how difficult it could be for anyone to land a deal for the City star, this is how the situation will hopefully remain until the summer window closes.
