Inside Texas’ Justin Wells and Joe Cook analyze what the Texas Longhorns are getting with the addition of 2025 Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Hightower defensive back Kade Phillips, who chose the Longhorns over Texas A&M and LSU.

Wells and Cook go over the addition of Phillips, who profiles to the safety position at the next level. Phillips has plenty of versatility as there were some schools offering him the chance to play corner. He might get that same chance at Texas, but if he turns into a safety he will bring plenty of athleticism to the position.
Wells explains that despite his listing at only 185 pounds, Phillips packs a punch. One name Wells tosses out when highlighting his versatility is Nathan Vasher.
The two then go into what the defensive back class looks like with both members, Phillips and Caleb Chester, hailing from Missouri City. The Longhorns hadn’t found much success in the Southwest Houston area in recent years, so that being a win is explained.
