Former Kentucky Baseball Assistant Coach Nick Ammirati made waves last week when he made the surprising move to join former Kentucky assistant Will Coggin on the Georgia staff.
Many were unaware that Ammirati’s contract came to an end on June 30, leaving him free to leave for another school. This move was a big blow to Nick Mingione and his staff, as his departure was one of the key factors in Nolan McCarthy‘s surprising decision to enter the Transfer Portal.
Coach Ammo’s departure leaves a hole in Mingione’s coaching staff, which is now just assistant/pitching coach Dan Roszel and assistant/recruiting coordinator Austin Cousino. Ammirati’s job has yet to be filled.
Roszel joined Kentucky back in 2020 after spending nine seasons at East Carolina. Roszel’s current contract began on July 1, 2023 and runs through June 30, 2025. His yearly salary is $260,000 plus incentives, which is the most among the assistants.
Cousino, who played at Kentucky from 2011-2014, signed his current contract on July 26, 2023. Just like Roszel’s, his contract runs through June 30, 2025. He made $170,000 his first year, but that salary was bumped up to $187,000 a year starting on July 1, 2024.
It is in both coach’s contracts that they agree not to personally or through any agent actively seek, negotiate for, or accept other employment of any nature during the term of the agreement, so Kentucky fans won’t have to worry about losing either coach until at least next summer.
As for Ammirati’s vacant position, keep an eye on former Cat Matt Reida. Reida, who is currently an assistant at Houston, has been thrown around as a name that could possibly be headed back to Lexington.
