Leeds United 'expected' to make new signing quickly after developments over the weekend - journalist

Leeds United are expected to make a new signing quickly after it was confirmed that one player would be leaving Elland Road over the weekend, on a permanent basis.

The Whites have been fully focused on outgoings so far. Marc Roca and Archie Gray have left the club on a permanent basis, while Diego Llorente and Charlie Cresswell are expected to join them in due course.

Sonny Perkins, Sam Greenwood and Jack Harrison have left on loan, while Liam Cooper and Cody Drameh are technically free agents. As is winger Ian Poveda, and Jamie Shackleton has joined Sheffield United.

Plenty of change is expected, with the future of a number of Leeds players still under the microscope. But the latest to leave the club is a player that managed just three appearances for Leeds under Daniel Farke.

Leeds make permanent sale on Sunday, third of the summer

Kristoffer Klaesson completed a permanent move to Polish side Rakow on the weekend, signing a deal until the summer of 2027. It comes after just four games in three years having joined the club in 2021.

While Klaesson was often seen on matchday, it was largely as cover for Illan Meslier and Karl Darlow. He was a regular on the bench while Darlow recovered from a thumb injury around the Christmas period.

Meslier’s red card at Preston saw Klaesson play three times, but that was it. He has left permanently and the Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue delivered an update on X, saying a replacement is expected quickly.

He said: “Kristoffer Klaesson joins Raków Częstochowa in Poland. Leeds expected to bring in a back-up goalkeeper shortly to replace the Norwegian.”

Who could Leeds target as a replacement for Klaesson?

The chances are that Leeds will want to replace Klaesson without spending a penny. There is little point in spending cash, when finances are stretched, on a player that is going to be a third-choice option at Leeds.

So, either Leeds make a signing that sees a youngster join the club or more likely, they bring in an elder head. One that provides cover to both cover and know how to Meslier and Darlow, possibly a free agent.

It will be interesting to see who Leeds sign in the next few days and weeks, with focus surely having to shift on additions this summer. So far, the only signing made is a permanent deal for Joe Rodon.
