Roma closing in on £20m deal could be bad news for Leeds United - opinion

Roma are reportedly closing in on the signing of a £20m midfielder in the form of French ace Enzo Le Fee, and it could prove to be bad news for Leeds United this summer.

Leeds have been hard at work trying to offload a number of players this summer as The 49ers look to trim Daniel Farke’s squad, while also sorting out the future of Victor Orta’s loan army as soon as possible.

The Whites are close to offloading a sixth of those eight players. Robin Koch, Luis Sinisterra and Marc Roca have gone permanently, while Jack Harrison has gone on loan to Everton for a second campaign.

Brenden Aaronson is back at Leeds, returning to Elland Road. He is still on his holidays having played for the United States at Copa America, where Jesse Marsch and Marcelo Bielsa have reached the semi-finals.

Diego Llorente will become the sixth of eight to be sorted out, while Max Wober and Rasmus Kristensen remain. Elsewhere, Archie Gray, Kristoffer Klaesson, Sonny Perkins and Sam Greenwood have all left.

Glen Kamara is attracting interest from Ligue 1 side Rennes

In terms of Farke’s squad last season, Leeds will be keen to keep them. But there is plenty of interest, with Brighton said to be keen on four Leeds players including Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter.

Another is Glen Kamara, who is said to have almost agreed personal terms with Ligue 1 side Rennes. The Finland ace was a regular in the Leeds midfield last term, providing both consistency and experience.

It is unclear if Kamara is willing to stay at Elland Road amid the interest from top-tier sides, but Farke will be desperate to keep him having only signed him from Rangers 12 months ago for a bargain fee of £5m.

Roma striking £20m deal could see Rennes make Kamara move

But Roma could play a part in that. They are set to splash £20m on Rennes star Le Fee, with TMW saying a deal is at the final stages. A Roma side that opted against spending under £4m for Llorente from Leeds.

A move for Le Fee will leave a massive gap in the middle of the park at Rennes and they will want to make a profit. Given Kamara is deemed a ‘priority’ for Rennes, it is likely they will step up a move for Kamara.

Especially, with the new armoury of £20m to spend. The best part of half of that might be difficult for Leeds to turn down given he was signed for £5m and Kamara is edging closer to his thirties at Leeds.
