Ole Miss transfer infielder Andrew Fischer has committed to Tennessee, he announced on Twitter. Fischer started his career at Duke before spending this past season with the Rebels.
Fischer put together an impressive sophomore campaign in 2024, starting all 49 games in which he appeared. He finished with a .249 batting average to go with 17 home runs and 44 RBI. That came after he earned ACC All-Freshman Team honors at Duke after putting up a .289 average and 11 home runs to set the Blue Devils’ freshman record for a single season.

Fischer was a highly touted recruit from Wall Township (N.J.), where he set a single-season school record with 33 home runs and a career mark with 65 walks. He will have two years of eligibility after transferring to Tennessee.
Tennessee is coming off a historic 2024 season, capped by the first national championship in program history. The Volunteers dropped the first game of the College World Series final to Texas A&M, but rallied to win the next two games to seal their first-ever title.
It’s been an impressive run for UT under Tony Vitello, and the portal has been a key part of that success. Getting the best players to Rocky Top is instrumental in the SEC, which proved to be the best baseball conference in the country this year with yet another all-SEC title game.
“It’s literally insanity,” Vitello said. “We have nemeses we play against and all that, but honestly I’ve got more respect for the coaches in this league than you can ever imagine or print into words.
“Then, you add in the guys who have families and do this, I honestly can’t comprehend how you can juggle both of those things because that’s all I can do. Coach [Josh] Heupel and Coach [Rick] Barnes, their sports are the same. It was good to see them. You have to lean on other people to survive this thing because it is a monster and the traditions are so deep.”
Andrew Fischer is one of the first transfer commitments for Vitello and the Vols as they look to build on their success this past season. It’s part of his plan to continue building a program with a hard-nosed identity, which he also attributed to the impressive run.
“We kind of had a theme going there that we needed to find a way to make this thing work. That freight train got going. It never really slowed down until it really got out of control, to be honest with you,” Vitello said.
“That was our niche. We got to play with some attitude, we gotta play with some grit. We’re going to have to get some guys that maybe don’t want to say yes to a school with a better winning record than us. And guys like that, some others with some attitude, have done a lot for this program.”
