Everyone loves Tyrese Maxey. I do, you do, the entire Kentucky fan base does, Joel Embiid sure does, and the Philadelphia 76ers just showed that love by handing him $204 million.
The 76ers, which drafted the 23-year-old Maxey in 2020, inked the freshly minted All-Star to a five-year contract on July 1 that will keep him in the City of Brotherly Love through the 2028-29 season. It’s a well-earned deal for the former Kentucky star, who has taken significant leaps in all four years he’s been in the NBA, capped off by winning Most Improved Player this past season while averaging 25.9 points and 6.2 assists per game.
On top of the millions upon millions (upon millions) of dollars the franchise rewarded Maxey with, they took the praise to another level, setting up an entire museum dedicated to the franchise point guard. There were plenty of Kentucky mentions in the video below, which takes us through Maxey’s tour of the honors and trophies he’s received over the years. And yes, John Calipari was included in the presentation.
Maxey, always the smiling bundle of joy, couldn’t contain his emotions by the end of the video — and odds are you won’t be able to, either.
