Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi sets yet another incredible record after Copa America win with Argentina

Lionel Messi broke yet another record last night as the Inter Miami captain scored in Argentina’s Copa America semi-final win against Canada.

The 37-year-old attacker scored his first goal of this summer’s edition of the competition as the reigning South American and world champions eased past Jesse Marsch’s Canada with a comfortable 2-0 win in New Jersey.

Setting up a final between either Uruguay or Colombia, things are looking good for Messi in retaining the Copa America and adding yet another piece of silverware to his already record-breaking trophy cabinet, with Leagues Cup with Inter Miami also around the corner.

And Messi also broke yet another goalscoring record last night with Argentina.

Messi now clear second in all-time men’s international goalscorers list

Messi’s goal against Canada took the reigning Ballon d’Or holder’s tally with Argentina up to 109 goals, putting the Inter Miami star out-right second on the all-time men’s international goalscorers list, moving one clear of legendary Iranian striker Ali Daei.

With Portugal icon and Messi’s long-term rival Ronaldo firmly sat on top spot with 130 international goals with Canada legend Christine Sinclair the all-time record for men and women with 190 goals, the Argentina star might not be breaking any more international goalscoring records.

However, Messi becoming out-right second in the goalscoring charts with the Inter Miami man likely to become the highest international assister in the coming months is nothing short of incredible from the legendary attacker.

Indeed, Messi’s latest unbelievable achievement in soccer should not be understated, with the Argentine now having all the motivation he needs to bring Copa America glory back to his country this summer.

Messi will be set on winning the Copa America with Argentina now

Messi’s Copa America with Argentina has been an interesting one, with the Inter Miami star clearly showing signs of fatigue with the forward’s age also starting to show its unfortunate effect.

Yet with just one game to go, one that could be Messi’s last ever for Argentina, the former PSG and FC Barcelona star will want to show how good he still is despite his age and fitness issues.

Winning the Copa America this week will be one of Messi’s best achievements yet and once again solidify his claim as the greatest of all time, not like many are now disputing this claim after the World Cup win in 2022.
