URGENT: Dollar falls sharply to 157 yen range after U.S. CPI data release

The U.S. dollar fell sharply against the yen early Thursday in New York, dropping to around the mid-157 yen range from over 161 yen after the release of June's U.S. consumer price index.

The CPI unexpectedly fell in June, with a 0.1 percent decline from May and an increase of 3.0 percent from a year earlier, the Labor Department said.
