Inter Miami could reportedly be set for a huge squad boost from Luis Suarez after Uruguay’s elimination from the Copa America.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side failed to book their ticket to this Sunday’s final in Miami against Lionel Messi’s Argentina, with Jefferson Lerma’s first-half strike against Uruguay all it took for Colombia to secure a 1-0 win in Charlotte.
With Suarez hardly featuring for Uruguay at this tournament due to Darwin Nunez being elected as the sole striker in Bielsa’s system, the Inter Miami star will return to Florida later this week fully fit and surprisingly rested having played just 31 minutes of soccer at the Copa America.
Yet as a result, Suarez could be in line for a quick return to MLS action.
Suarez in line for quick Inter Miami return after Copa America elimination
According to the Miami Herald’s Michelle Kaufman, Suarez could be in line to feature for Inter Miami in their next MLS fixture against Toronto FC next Wednesday, though Messi is likely to miss out due to competing in the Copa America final.
With Matias Rojas also back after Paraguay’s early exit from the tournament, Inter Miami will be at near full strength when they welcome their Canadian rivals to Chase Stadium, with Suarez’s return a big boost.
Kaufman said on whether Messi will play for Inter Miami in their upcoming MLS tie against Toronto: “If they’re playing in the final on Sunday, Inter Miami’s next game is Wednesday. Do you really think three days after the Copa final he’s going to play? No.
“Suarez, though, I would think yes, he’s itching to play. As much as he loves his country and he loves being there and in the locker room, he’s barely played.”
Suarez will be raring to go again after disappointing Copa America
Having hardly kicked a ball for Uruguay this summer at the Copa America, there’s a good reason why Suarez will be desperate to return to the pitch against having been a regular for Inter Miami this season.
The Herons have coped well with without the veteran striker and Messi, with Inter Miami picking up four wins from five without the duo, though their latest outing was a historic 6-1 loss to FC Cincinnati.
Indeed, Suarez’s world-class attacking qualities will be a welcome bonus for Inter Miami next week, and the attacker will be keen to get back out there and scoring having not played for Uruguay this summer.
