Colorado ‘isn’t even a Big 12 contending team,’ ESPN’s Heather Dinich claims

Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders made headlines recently when he claimed that the Buffaloes are “everybody’s Super Bowl.”

ESPN’s Heather Dinich was asked about that claim Thursday morning on ESPN First Take. According to Dinich, Colorado is only considered a huge game for opponents because of how much the Buffaloes talk.

“When he’s talking about that, if you’re an opposing player, you’re looking at Colorado as a Super Bowl only through the eyes of someone who perceives some of their comments to be arrogant,” Dinich said. “If you look at KJ Jefferson, who’s now the quarterback at UCF, he has a picture of Shedeur Sanders in his locker, because there are people who think he’s the best quarterback in the country. So this is bulletin board material. This is locker room material.”

Colorado opened last season with a 4-2 record before dropping its final six games to finish the year 4-8. Some are talking about Colorado as a potential Big 12 contender entering the 2024 season, but Dinich expects Deion Sanders and company to have a similar season to 2023.

“Anyone who watches college football knows this isn’t a Super Bowl team. This isn’t even a Big 12 contending team. This is a team that’s trying to win a few football games here,” Dinich said. “So to me, it’s a little bit different when you’re talking about the approach as a coach or a player against Colorado. You’re just trying to quiet these guys and their attitude and their swagger.”

More on Shedeur Sanders claiming Colorado is ‘everybody’s Super Bowl’

Shedeur Sanders made headlines at Big 12 Media Days when he claimed Colorado is “everybody’s Super Bowl.”

On the surface, it’s an intriguing statement from the Buffaloes’ quarterback. But when you peel back the layers, it’s a fascinating situation when teams play Colorado.

Colorado created buzz as soon as Sanders’ father Deion took over the program ahead of the 2023 season and despite a 4-8 season, the hype train hasn’t slowed down.

“(It’s) been that since day one,” Sanders said. “I remember(my) first media day when I was in HBCU, I said we won’t lose a game. I’m undefeated in the SWAC so I already know what the expectation comes with. I know we’re everybody’s Super Bowl so I really just stay level headed and grounded. I would never want to be that guy to look back and not (be) able to take advantage of the moment we have right now.”
