Shedeur Sanders and Carson Beck are tied atop the quarterback ratings for the new EA Sports college football video game ahead of the release. But it’s not a decision Sanders seems to love.

Both Beck and Sanders are rated 93 overall, and are two of the Top 20 rated players in the game, as well as being the two highest-rated quarterbacks — Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is No. 3 with a 92 overall rating. As far as the Colorado quarterback is concerned, there are no ties in quarterbacking.

“I mean I don’t believe in — it’s a tie, I don’t believe in ties when it comes to quarterback,” Sanders said at Big 12 Media Days. “When it comes to quarterback ratings, I don’t believe in ties. It’s either a winner or loser, like let’s just get to the point.”

While Sanders might have his gripes about the rating, ties among video game players are both common and somewhat necessary to produce a balanced game — even if Sanders doesn’t think they fully reflect the reality.

The ratings also have plenty of layers to explore beyond the top line overall rating. The full suite of player attributes aren’t released so the public still hasn’t learned how Beck and Sanders rank in deep throw accuracy or tackle breaking, among other specifics. So far, along with the overalls, EA has released five sub-categories: Speed, acceleration, strength, awareness and jumping.

In all of those categories, Sanders trumps Beck. Given they have the same overall, it’s safe to presume Beck has the leg up on Sanders in some of the yet-to-be-revealed-categories.

And once both teams start playing actual games on the gridiron this fall, ratings adjusters will keep a keen eye on the top quarterbacks to make sure the player ratings are reflective of the real-life players.

Deion Sanders quibbled with a rating for another one of his stars

The new EA Sports College Football 2025 video game is right around the corner. With that, some player ratings, like that of Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter, have been revealed.

Travis Hunter is a 95 overall player in the new video. That makes him one of the highest-rated players in the game. At the same time, it’s a rating that his head coach, Deion Sanders, doesn’t entirely understand given everything he can do on the field.

“I don’t know nothing about that video game,” Deion Sanders said. “I’m not a video game guy. I love video games but I’m a real game guy. I don’t know. Like, you guys talk about ratings and rankings, I don’t know about that stuff.”

Hunter is actually the sixth-ranked player in the country. He’s also one of seven players to earn a 95 overall ranking in the game. That makes him the highest-ranked wide receiver in the game as well, though Will Johnson of Michigan is a higher-rated cornerback.

Along with Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders is also one of the top 100 rated players that EA released ahead of the game.

“I’m just trying to figure out how can Shedeur be tied with another person,” Deion Sanders said. “How did that happen? And how can Travis not have the highest score on the game when he’s arguably the best receiver and the best defensive back in college football? So, how can you not be the number one rated guy, period? I don’t understand that either.”
