‘Absolutely brilliant’: Paul Merson blown away by Man City-linked player after latest Euro 2024 game

Manchester City have seen a large number of their players take part in the 2024 European Championship.

In fact, City have had more players (14) involved in this summer’s tournament than any other side in the Premier League.

The Blues have also seen a number of players they’ve been linked with transfer moves for this summer take part in the competition.

Now that Sunday’s final is set to take place between England and Spain, one pundit has shared some heavy praise for one particular player Pep Guardiola’s side have been linked with recently and what he’s done on the international stage for his country.

Paul Merson says he’s been amazed by Dani Olmo at Euro 2024

In a recent column for Sportskeeda where he previewed and predicted the score for this weekend’s final between England and Spain, Paul Merson had this to say on the subject of the goals Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo scored in Spain’s 2-1 win over France in the semi-final.

He said: “Lamine Yamal being just 16 is absolutely ridiculous, 16-year-olds are supposed to be in school! I just can’t put into words how good his goal was against France but I liked Dani Olmo’s goal more.

“The touch to set himself up and the finish were both out of the top drawer, I’m glad it didn’t go down as an own goal as Olmo deserves to be credited for his moment of brilliance.

“I think he’s been absolutely brilliant in the knockouts and he wasn’t even playing at the start of the tournament.

“Amazing footballer – you look around and think he would start for most good teams around the continent.”

Olmo has shown his quality this summer

The RB Leipzig midfielder has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks, with a report from Bild claiming that Guardiola is eager to land a deal for the Spaniard.

Despite only starting two of the five games he’s appeared in throughout the Euros, the 26-year-old has still managed to score three goals and supply two assists for his side.

However, with journalist Alex Crook recently claiming that City now aren’t interested in securing a deal for Olmo this summer, it’s safe to say based on Merson’s recent comments that the Blues could be missing out on adding a top talent to their ranks.
