The Golden State Warriors have hired Jerry Stackhouse and Terry Stotts as assistant coaches, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday. Stotts will reportedly be the lead assistant coach on the staff under head coach Steve Kerr. Stackhouse comes to the Warriors after spending the past five seasons as the head coach at Vanderbilt. He was named the SEC Coach of the Year in 2022-23 after leading the Commodores to a 22-15 record. Overall, Stackhouse went 70-92 across his tenure as the Vanderbilt coach. He was fired after posting a 9-23 record this past season. Stotts brings several years of head ...

Clark Lea made several changes to his staff and roster this offseason following Vanderbilt‘s 2-10 season in 2023. Hoping to have found the answers to the Commodores’ woes, Lea explained why he’s expecting improvements in 2024 — and why his team is feeling rejuvenated after losing 10-straight games to end last season. “I’ve got an eager team. I got a bunch of a new team members,” Lea said at the SEC spring meetings. “Again, we have over 120 players on our team right now. To put that in perspective, we had 98 on the first team I fielded at Vanderbilt. So, we’ve come a long way that way. “You kno...

The Vanderbilt Commodores and head coach Clark Lea made news back in January when the program opted to hire former New Mexico State head coach Jerry Kill. Kill stepped down from his post as the Aggies’ head coach to take a more behind-the-scenes position with the Commodores. Recently, during a sit-down interview with Paul Finebaum, Lea detailed the process that led to the hiring of the former New Mexico State head coach. “I’ve always admired Jerry, and I’ve competed against him a couple of times,” stated Lea. “But you know, just really, my admiration for him is just knowing the challenges he’s...

Vanderbilt Football is arguably one of the most difficult jobs at the collegiate level. The changing nature of the college ranks only further compounds that issue, including for them. Still, for Clark Lea, it’s something that he welcomes as the head coach of the Commodores. As he said during SEC Spring Meetings in Destin, the hurdles are obviously there but then added that they add some additional enjoyment to the job. “There are challenges. But, God, is that not the fun of it?” Lea said. Being 9-27 through three years isn’t an easy thing to deal with, especially with a pair of 2-10 finishes. ...

The recent House settlement is going to have a big impact on college football as a whole. For Vanderbilt Commodores head coach Clark Lea, the hope is that this is a step forward in keeping rosters from being poached. Lea explained at SEC spring meetings that the House settlement is something that should give college sports a foundation to build on. Within that, he hopes that college sports have a chance to find more stability moving forward. “The settlement is a first step,” Clark Lea said. “I think it’s a big rock, right, a big rock that then gives room for smaller rocks and that’s going to b...

Jamoni Jones, a former running back at New Mexico State, has reportedly joined the roster at Vanderbilt. The news of Jones’ addition by the Commodores came on Friday. Jones spent his first year at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M before joining New Mexico State for the last two seasons. Jerry Kill, the last head coach at New Mexico State, joined Vanderbilt’s staff under Clark Lea as a chief consultant to the head coach and as a senior offensive advisor. With that, five former Aggies, all from their offense, have since transferred to Nashville. In six appearances as a freshman, Jones had 73 carries fo...

One of the first moves Vanderbilt head coach Clark Lea made to begin the offseason saw him shake up his coaching staff, specifically at offensive coordinator. After seemingly everything went wrong for the Commodores down the stretch last season, former OC Joey Lynch was let go and replaced by former New Mexico State assistant Tim Beck. Lea explained the thought process for making the chance after the Commodores seemingly regressed in 2023. “I wanted to find someone who has run a system that can establish a run game,” Lea explained at the 2024 SEC spring meetings. “That was important. Game cont...

There’s no question Vanderbilt is up against it in the SEC and anonymous opposing coaches were pretty blunt about the state of the program. Clark Lea, the Commodores’ head coach, is respected in coaching circles. But it certainly seems like he has an impossible task. Since coming over from Notre Dame, Lea is 9-27 in three seasons, with two 2-win campaigns. Vanderbilt outfielder Cooper Holbrook entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. He was the latest player from the team to enter amid seemingly an exodus. Head coach Tim Corbin previously talked about what made Holbrook an enticing prospect. “Coop is big, strong and fast,” Corbin said of Holbrook. “He has power at the plate and moves well on the bases. He is a self-driven kid who really enjoys being at the facility and in the cages. He has taken a very intentional step in the weight room where he has added a lot of strength to a big frame. “High character kid with a high ...
