'Massive': Barry Bannan blown away by one thing Danny Rohl did at Sheffield Wednesday recently

Barry Bannan was one of the first players to sign a new contract with Sheffield Wednesday this summer.

Fans were left concerned when a long list of players were nearing the end of their contracts, with the Owls’ future in the Championship in limbo.

However, Danny Rohl managed to guide Sheffield Wednesday to safety and has so far done a brilliant job at nailing down those out-of-contract stars.

Liam Palmer and Bannan put pen to paper very quickly, while Josh Windass and Dominic Iorfa have extended their stays this week.

With the club already making six new signings and also working on a new contract for Di’Shon Bernard, Rohl is receiving huge praise for his first summer as a senior head coach.

The German signed his own new long-term deal in May and Bannan believes that the Owls aren’t going to make a ‘bigger’ signing than the manager himself.

Danny Rohl is Sheffield Wednesday’s ‘biggest signing’

Speaking to The Star, Bannan said: ““It was massive.

“Even little things like with people being out of contract it might help them to stay for next season, might make it easier for them because they know who the manager is. So him committing to another couple of seasons was a big mental boost for the club. And it helps attract players as well if we’re going to sign them.

“You’ve seen his calibre at the Euros when he was commentating, and his profile is massive. That helps when it comes to signing players. I think he was the biggest signing for the club this summer, and even if we sign more players now I don’t think they’ll be bigger than the manager staying.”

Where would the Owls be without him?

Windass previously admitted that Rohl’s contract could decide whether he would stay at Hillsborough, while he had also hailed him as the best coach he has ever worked with.

Rohl’s pull has been made so obvious in the two months since the season ended, and it’s hard to think what the club’s situation would have been like if he had left.

Wednesday certainly wouldn’t have made a majority of the signings they have, while they might have only managed to tie down one or two players to new deals.

He has completely transformed the present and the future for the Yorkshire outfit, while fans can head into the new campaign full of excitement rather than doubt.
